We are not an insurance company or broker, but a dedicated team of insurance professionals backed by the Acromas Group, the owners of Saga and the AA.

Why should I use your site instead of going direct to an insurer?

Price Comparison websites are a great way of getting several insurance quotes quickly, however the problem with most of them is that they only give you a list of prices – and often from insurance companies you’ve never heard of.

Whilst price is obviously a crucial factor, experienced drivers know that if you’ve ever had to make a claim there’s much more to insurance than just the premium. You need to consider the inclusive extras in your car insurance policy, e.g. will you need a courtesy car if your car needs repairs after an accident? What will happen if you are hit by an uninsured driver and you need legal expenses cover?

Confident Cover is different.

Here at Confident Cover we do things differently. Unlike many comparison sites you can compare both price and policy features. Using the ConfidentComparatorTM you can…

  • Personalise search results for your own exact needs and demands. Use our side-by-side display to compare up to three car insurance policies. So you can see at a glance the difference between a “bargain” and a “comprehensive” policy,
  • Be sure that the insurers we work with use all the information that you provide so when you click through to their website to buy the policy, the price won’t change unless your details have.

Which insurance companies do you work with?

We’re working hard to bring you a broad selection of mainstream insurers who provide policies with features of interest to the Over 50s. Our list is constantly growing and we do not prioritise any one of them. Currently we have the following companies on board:

  • Swiftcover
  • Saga
  • Endsleigh
  • Hastings
  • Kwik-Fit
  • MoreThan
  • Budget Insurance
  • Zurich
  • Lancaster
  • AA
  • Yes!
  • Dial Direct
  • Insure.co.uk
  • RAC
  • InsureYourMotor

Your sister companies Saga and the AA provide car insurance - do you favour their insurance?

Although we are backed by the same group we do not prioritise or give an advantage either of these companies.

Are your prices the same as going direct to an insurer?

Whilst we cannot control what the insurers do on their own websites, we have asked all of them to make sure that the price they give us is the same as the price they display to you on their site.

Why shouldn't I just look for the cheapest quote?

Comparison sites sometimes hide the importance of extra features that tend to increase your premiums simply to sell you the cheapest quote. But some of the extras are vital and can be extremely helpful, e.g. hire cars; will you have something to drive if your car needs to go in for repairs? Yes it will be more expensive, but you do get a more comprehensive policy, so cheaper isn’t always better, you need to establish what exactly you want from your car insurance policy and remember, you get what you pay for.

How does ConfidentCover make money?

The insurer pays us an introductory commission only when a policy is sold.

Why do I need to give so much information?

At ConfidentCover.com we try to make sure the price you see on our screens is the same as the price you see on the insurers’ screens. As each insurer asks a slightly different set of questions, we need to make sure we cater for all of them. We avoid asking unnecessary “marketing” questions.

Do I have to tell you everything - what if I don't know the answer to a question?

If you don’t know the answer to a question, we would recommend you try and research it, because the more information you give us the better deals we can find you.

How long will it take to fill in all my details?

ConfidentCover is a one-stop shop where you’ll spend no more than 5-10 minutes entering your details. Once you’ve submitted them, we’ll automatically send those details to our partners who will assess your risk profile simultaneously. Once this has been completed - which normally takes just a few seconds - the insurers send us their quotes and we display them on our results page.

What happens to all my information?

We are committed to securing and protecting your information. To ensure that your information is secure we have implemented the industry standard 128-bit secure socket layer (SSL) encryption. This is verified by the padlock which is displayed at the bottom of the screen while you get a quote.

ConfidentCover.com is certified secure by Thawte. The information you supply is encrypted and cannot be read by anyone else while it’s travelling over the Internet.

On your first visit the website you will be asked to set a password which will be emailed to you for future reference. Your data is stored on our secure servers and subject to the Data Protection Act.

What information will I need to hand before I start?

As well as details about yourself and any additional drivers you’ll need…
  • Car registration or make & model, date of purchase, mileage, modifications
  • Details of any claims and convictions in the last five years – you and your additional drivers

How can I keep my car insurance costs down?

It is important to keep insurance costs down, but don’t sacrifice the quality of your policy to save a couple of pounds. If we lived in a rural area, with limited public transport, we wouldn’t want to save £25 by going to an insurer who cannot offer a replacement car in the event of a claim.

Apart from details on the individual and their address, the main factors of car insurance premium are

Car Type: The Association of British Insurers (ABI) places car models into one of twenty groups. This means that each model of car can be banded with cars of similar characteristics.

Over half of all money paid out in motor insurance claims goes on repairing cars. The cost of spare parts and the times taken by repairers are therefore major factors in pricing motor insurance.

Performance is another factor; acceleration and top speed are important factors. Insurers know very well, from their claims statistics, that high performance cars often result in more frequent insurance claims.

So the lower the grouping of your car, the lower your insurance risk (and therefore price) would be.
Security: The fitment of a car alarm, an immobiliser and/or tracking device can yield discounts with certain insurers. You may find this being a mandatory fitment for certain insurers with certain car types.
Annual Mileage: Insurers give discounts for vehicles that spend less of their time on the road. It therefore pays to sit down and consider how many miles you’re travelling on average each week or month, rather than entering a ballpark figure.
Overnight Parking: As an insurance company, the overnight parking location that holds the least risk for your vehicle is a locked garage. If you have access to a locked garage, you should find a saving if you park your car there.
Additional Drivers: If you name an individual on your policy as an additional driver, the insurer will calculate your quote based on the additional driver requiring cover for the entire year. If your additional driver is using your vehicle just once or twice a year, then you may find it more cost effective if you did not include them on your quote. You can then call your chosen insurance company and place them on cover temporarily as and when you need them covered.
Voluntary Excess: An excess is the first amount of any claim that the customer has to pay if the vehicle is stolen or damaged. This fixed amount can be claimed back if the liability of the claim is settled in your favour, normally referred to as ‘Uninsured Loss Recovery’ and usually recovered via Legal Expenses cover. Essentially, if you increase your voluntary excess, you offset some of the risk the insurer is taking on so consequently, a lower price can be offered.

If I am going abroad what cover do I need?

It’s always a good idea to establish the exact situation with the cover available if you are planning on travelling abroad. You will find, in respect of European cover, key differences in what is or isn’t covered.

Some companies offer unlimited cover whereas some restrict where and/or how long you can go for.

With ConfidentCover.com, you’re able to compare what European cover is available with each insurer, using our ConfidentComparator. This gives you a high-level indication as to what the situation is, and therefore whom you should consider when purchasing your insurance policy.

How can I tell if a car is an import?

Determining whether your car is an import is relatively easy as many car dealers will tell you if you simply ask. Another way to check is to look in its service history and you should be able to see the pre-delivery inspection stamp and if it was stamped in a foreign country then your car is an import.

What are the differences between cover types?

Insurers need to know what sort of insurance cover you require. Please select from these options:

3rd Party Only: This covers claims made by third parties and does not cover any damage to your vehicle.
3rd Party Fire & Theft: This provides you with cover fire and theft of your vehicle as well as any claims made by third parties.
Comprehensive: This covers accidental damage to your vehicle in addition to fire & theft and any claims made by third parties.

Why do insurance companies ask about medical conditions?

Insurance companies are only interested in medical conditions if the DVLA has had to be legally notified. When this requirement happens, the conditions of your driving licence would potentially change and therefore, the insurance companies’ risk assessment of you could potentially change too. However, always remember if the DVLA do not need to know about a medical condition, then your insurance company would not need to know either.
